RED SMOOTHIES

Strawberry – How can you go wrong with strawberry! They are naturally sweet, protect your heart, increase HDL (good) cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and guard against cancer. Just one serving (about eight strawberries) provides more vitamin C than an orange. They are in peak season right now and are the perfect fruit for a “red” smoothie.
Tomatoes - Tomatoes are loaded with antioxidants such as lycopene, vitamin C, and vitamin A and yet they have very few calories. Tomatoes are a great compliment to the strawberries in this red smoothie. It may sound odd at first to think of blending a cup of tomatoes into your morning drink, but believe me it tastes amazing! All you really notice is the sweet strawberry flavor with a “garden fresh” essence that comes from the tomatoes. If you are planning a summer garden, these are incredibly easy to grow!
Strawberry Kefir – I love this probiotic drink and it is ideal to blend into smoothies. Kefir is great for digestion and can boost your immune system. It is thick yet pourable, so it creates a great consistency in smoothies. Plus, it comes in a variety of flavors!
Basil – I wanted to find a way to make this smoothie stand out from the crowd, so why not throw in a few basil leaves! Again, it sounds wild, but it really results in a “fresh” essence to the drink. Plus, basil offers anti-innflamitory properties and is easy to grow in a windowsil herb garden!

1 cup Grape tomatoes
1/2 cup Strawberries
1 cup Strawberry Kefir
